This painting was done for a show at the local gallery that represents me (The Artists Gallery at Lumina or T.A.G.) here in Wilmington. The theme of the show is “Erotica,” which is certainly not my normal subject matter, but I thought I’d give it a shot anyway. Since I love folk art and I have been painting some old weathervanes recently, I got a bit of a brainstorm and decided to try to come up with an erotic (sort of) weathervane with a humorous twist, which I also like to do in much of my work.
There are literally hundreds of variations of horses on weathervanes; some are made of wood and some are made of cast iron or copper, and then painted or gilded. I took several horse weathervanes and created one of my own out of wood and added the busty lady, which I completely made up. Since I love to paint old wood, cracks and peeling paint, and I wanted it to look old, I painted it the way most old weathervanes appear today: weathered. The Lady could use a new coat of paint. (And perhaps a bra!)
