Project Description
Cobb Island Bufflehead
$75
In the “Shorebird” section of the Decoy” page of this website I gave a brief history of Cobb Island decoys. The decoy pictured here is from a classic working Nathan Cobb Bufflehead drake, made sometime in the late 1800’s and loaned to me by a friend in Virginia who is lucky enough to own some of the greatest Cobb decoys ever made. The actual decoy is hollow with the typical Cobb inletted head and simple but effective paint pattern, and the classic “N” carved into the bottom. A similar decoy fetched over $100,000 at auction recently. This is a delightful little decoy, and I tried to capture that same feeling in the miniature offered here.
